#RememberingLKY

When Lee Kuan Yew (LKY) passed away on 23rd March 2015, many from around the world paid tribute and offered their condolences to the Lee family as well as to Singaporeans as a whole. I recalled it was a sombre week.

No matter what your political leanings are, it’s undeniable that he and the old-guard had a huge impact on the dramatic transformation and economic growth of Singapore since its independence.

On Sunday, 29th March 2015, his cortège left the Parliament House for its final journey. Thousands braved the heavy rain to bid their final farewell to Singapore’s first Prime Minister.

Raspberry and I also wanted to bid our last goodbyes. People were lining the streets in the heavy downpour. When the cortège rolled by about 30-minutes later, there was a thunderous clapping and cheering.. “Lee Kuan Yew! Lee Kuan Yew!”. It was truly an emotional sight to behold.

I may not be a Singaporean, but nevertheless I’m thankful for his vision and contribution to this country I now call my home.

Farewell, Good Sir. Farewell.
